How do I know what I need
to shave my Door Handles?
When planning to shave your door handles and install an entry system, you need to consider the following - How do you want your car or truck to operate? What type of switching system fits your needs? Are you retaining your original latches? What condition are they in? The answers to these questions will lead you to make selections in 4 separate sub-systems: the Safety System (locking and back-up for the actual entry system), the Triggering System (the switches), the Power System (that actually does the latch releasing), and the Latches. You will need one item from each of the 4 sub-systems (Safety System items are optional but highly recommended). Every one of the items listed below will work together EXCEPT THAT (1) Screw Motor actuators will not work with original latches made prior to about 1960 - they are not strong enough - and (2) Our HoleShot Solenoids require about 25 amps of switching power, so any of the Triggering Systems will need relays - this includes most Remote Controls. StreetWorks Triggering Systems come with relays.

Some Tips About Original Door Latches
When retaining original door latches it's important to give them a good "going over". That is, inspect them for worn or broken parts, especially the driver side that gets more use over the years. Make sure they work freely and smoothly. When going to power entry systems there are four other items to check. First, the original latch "tongue" can often have a throw length (movement) of nearly an inch. But few solenoids have a travel over 5/8". To accommodate this, look for the rubber bumper that stops the tongue in its full out position and replace it with some thicker rubber to decrease the throw length. Second, the return spring is usually overly strong for the job. Just cold reverse bend the spring (never hot) so that it returns the latch to its full closed position but doesn't push any more "beyond" that. Third, limit the latch to striker overlap to 3/8" to 1/2" max. and lubricate where they contact. You may also have to file the striker edge to eliminate pinpoint contact with the tongue which sends PSI forces and frictional force through the roof (so to speak). Finally, brand new or too thick door gaskets also multiply the friction between the tongue and striker. Unless you plan to drive your rod in the winter, ultra-"tight" doors aren't needed and will cause lots of problems.

The magnet is the "key" to this trick system. Just place the magnet close to the hidden switch and it will send power to your actuator, solenoid or any momentary switched mechanism. Complete with "keys", switches, clips, 40-amp relays and a back-up button in case you misplace the keys.

Also, magnetic fields do not work through steel but the hidden switch can be put under the lip of a fender or running board, behind glass, plastic, fiberglass, aluminum, stainless trim, filler or any non-magnetic material.
